The Green Dragon

The Green Dragon

From The Railway Children by E. Nesbitt.
First appeared: 1906
When their father mysteriously disappears, Roberta, Peter, Phyllis and their mother are forced to leave London and move to the country. There the three children find themselves drawn to the local railway station. 'The Green Dragon' is the name they give to the 9.15 train, which they wave to each day and through which they meet the Old Gentleman. In 1970 a film version was made at the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway, with Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway No. 957 as the Green Dragon. In 1999 the film was remade for TV at the Bluebell Railway, when the SECR C-class No.592 played the part of the Green Dragon.
