The Road Goes Ever On: The Lord of the Rings BBC Radio Series fanlisting
About this fanlisting
This fanlisting is for the dramatisation of The Lord of the Rings first aired on BBC Radio in 1981. For more information about the dramatisation itself, see the info page, or check out the links under etc.
This highly acclaimed series has been re-broadcast on many occasions, and I first heard it on radio when I was 10 years old. It was my first encounter with The Lord of the Rings, and I immediately fell in love with the story. I read the book over the weeks that the series aired, and was impressed by how faithful it was to Tolkien's work. The way I read the characters in the book has always been shaped by they way they sounded in this series, especially Peter Woodthorpe's Gollum. My parents bought the series on cassette for my birthday one year, and I don't think I'll ever get tired of listening to it.
When I was thinking about fanlistings I'd like to join I realised this was a significant one for me that didn't yet exist...
